Valley National Park – this is dubbed to be the Real African Wilderness due to its furthest

extremity of remote, sparsely populated Karamoja region. The park represents one of Africa’s

most magnificent wildernesses with dappling Big Game favorites that include the Elephants,

Buffalo, Giraffes, Zebra, Elands, Lions, Cheetah and Ostriches, all roaming the open grasslands

that that enjoy the daily backdrops of the ragged mountain ranges in all Directions.

Game drives and walks to the wilderness are directed by nature not time! Take a game Drive

and crown it with a walking safari along a sandy dry river bed fringed with palm trees, climb to

the top of a rocky outcrop and take in the views! We move slowly along isolated tracks to fully

appreciate all around us, looking for tracks and signs of the animal’s movements we can stop at

any point to investigate further. We may take a walk to track the lions, or even cheetah, always

surrounded by Zebra, Waterbuck, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Warthogs, Patas monkeys and BIG

herds of Buffalo.

Spend the Day with the Karamojong people. They are subsistence farmers who grind their own

grain and are very remote and very interesting socially, they live in small villages arranged in

clusters, which comprise the total community with each village surrounded by an outer wall.

Listen to the social, economic life style stories and you may sample their local food and also note

their wonderful unique and comical hairstyles.

Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is the proud home of the only white rhinos in Uganda. Located in

Nakasongola district, not only can you find rhinos, but a wide variety of bird species and other

wildlife. The wildlife ranch has become a popular destination for tourists looking for adventure.

We offer Rhino trekking, birding tours, nature hikes, night-time nature walks and a shoebill trek

& canoe ride.

The ranch offers a bar and restaurant where we serve cold drinks and delicious home cooked

meals.

Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is one of Uganda’s best kept secrets which hosts a 10 kilometer swamp

called, The Lugogo Wetlands. This wetland is an integral part of the ecosystem and is home to a

multitude of animals, and rare birds. During our morning canoe, we will be rewarded with the

most unparalleled opportunities for bird viewing in Uganda – including the threatened and

endangered Shoebill.

This birding is thanks to three biospheres being integrated in the Wetlands meaning that vast

numbers of birds not normally seen, reside in the area. Some of the 350+ species found here

include the White Crested Turaco, the Giant Kingfisher, Palmnut Vulture, Barbets, and most of

the woodpecker species, including the Speckled-breasted Woodpecker.

After lunch, trek Rhinos, there were 15 Rhinos which were reintroduced after their extinction in

the 1970s through poaching though the number has expanded due to new births. A local ranger

guide will lead you on foot to an up-close encounter with the rhinos and it may take about 1 and

half hours.
