A quick visit to the ‘Ol Pejeta Conservancy’
Pick up from your city hotel in Nairobi and transfer to the central part of Kenya to Ol Pejeta
Conservancy, crossing the equator. The drive is pleasant and approximately takes 03 hours
from Nairobi.
Between the foothills of the Aberdare and Mount Kenya situated on the equator west of Nanyuki,
The Ol Pejeta is a non-profit wildlife conservancy in Central Kenya's Laikipia County. It spreads
in a large area of 360 square kilometeres.
Africa’s most iconic animals hunt, graze, breed and fight for survival on the plains of Ol Pejeta
every day, in an ecosystem that has the highest densities of wildlife in Kenya outside of the
Maasai Mara. Using the latest technology to monitor species populations, and smart fencing
techniques that allow free movement of migratory wildlife, Ol Pejeta prides itself on being at
the cutting edge of conservation innovation. As the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa,
and the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, Ol Pejeta is also safeguarding some of the most
vulnerable wildlife in the world, and advocating for change.
After arrival at the camp, check-in and enjoy hot lunch at a Serena Sweetwater’s Tented Camp.
Visit the Chimpanzee sanctuary in the afternoon. The chimpanzees’ natural home range spans
from Senegal on the West African coast, through the central forested belt of Africa, to Uganda.
They are not native to Kenya, but when a rescue centre in Burundi had to be closed due to the
civil war outbreak in 1993 – Ol Pejeta opened its doors. Here there are more than 35 Chimpanzees
and you may be able to interact and watch them.
Later in the day, enjoy the evening game drive at the sanctuary. With the snowy peaks of Mt.
Kenya as your backdrop, your safari in East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary is sure to be as
beautiful as it is diverse. Find yourself and the Big Five as you explore 90,000 acres of
unadulterated wilderness with an experienced guide who will share his expert knowledge with
you. Venture out there for close encounters with elephants, wild dogs, lions, hyenas, buffalo,
